File backups are very imporing for all of us, even if for the mos of us the data represents our holiday pictures, maybe some courses for college, your top 100 songs and some latest movies.But for other, thier computer has important data for thir work. Let’s imagine for example that a doctor has in hus computer all the data about his patients, including names, addresses, their health condition, diseases from the past, the prescribed medicamentation etc. How a huge waste will be lo lose all that data, not only for the doctor, but also for the patients and their families. How important would have been if the doctor would thought to backup his data, so in the case that the hard drive fails or the cimputer has other problems, he didn’t have to re write and search all that informations.
But if you work at a company, the data backup may be easy. That’s because usually all the computers are connected to the same server, and each night (or once in a few days), all the data from your computers is stored to the server. So you had a backup data even if you didn’t know. But just in case you must check if this auto save is really working, and if not, make sure to save your files and folders in the server memory.
So go into a shop and buy one of these : a writeble CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, or a memory stick with more then 1 Gb memory. Then take some free time and manually copy your impotant data into a CD, DVD, or in the memory stick you have just purchased. But if you use Windows, you can use the backup program that its given by Windows. You can find it in the “Accesories” from the “Start” menu, then go to the “System tools” folder and then here you have the “Backup” option (next to it it has a image with a floppy with a red arrow). It is good to know that just in case you forget after a while to do this, you can schedule the backup, using the “schedule backups” option.
Then you must select what folders to be backuped ant in what date yhe process to run, or you can schedule this task to be done every week, in the day you choose.
